The morning after
You slept. They didn’t. The test of a staff is not the demo. It is what is on the desk at 7am.
A chatbot is impressive at midnight. A staff is useful at 7am. The difference is what is still there when you open the laptop: a brief, a stack of files, drafts waiting for Allow — same room as last night, different shift.
That is the whole product. Not a smarter reply. A floor that holds a job overnight.
What 7am actually looks like
Scout’s brief is on the front desk. Not a transcript. A page: what changed, why it matters, what to do. Maker left files in the computer — a page, a draft, an asset — not a bubble you have to reverse-engineer. Closer queued the outreach and stopped. One Allow chip on the rail, because sending mail is not a night-shift decision.
Same room as last night. Different shift.
Why chat windows fail this test
A chat window is a conversation. It ends when you close it. In the morning you re-explain the job, re-attach the files, re-find the thread. You become the night manager of a bot that does not have a desk.
A teammate has a roster slot, a home folder, and a standing brief. You do not hire “the model” every morning. You hired Scout. Scout still has the job.
The honest limit
Schedules run while 8staff is open on this machine. Open at login is what makes the night actually happen. Closing the window on Mac does not fire them. Closing the laptop still sleeps the machine. We will not pretend otherwise.
They are still working when you close the laptop — if the app is open on this machine. That is the night shift. Not a cloud farm.
